The new Warrumbungle National Park Visitor Centre has been shortlisted in the Civic and Community Completed Building category of the World Architecture Festival Awards. The new centre is a dramatic response to its unique landscape setting and rich cultural heritage. Interpreting the geology of the place through the key concept of ‘Fracture’, the fault-lines which divide the rock are overtly referenced in the overall form of the building. Powerful curving stone-clad walls offer a strong sense of arrival, guiding visitors to the heart of the centre. The presence of the stone walls continues, leading visitors to the spectacular southern view and then to the walking tracks to the north, all the while, providing a protective embrace to the visitor experience.
