The new additions to the Wagga Wagga Courthouse respond to the character and physical form of the original 1903 building while retaining the principal entry to the courthouse through the iconic courtyard on Fitzmaurice Street. Using a combination of smooth-faced and textured concrete panels, coupled with a strategic use of dark metallic blades and detailing, the new building provides a richness of texture found in the earlier building. The single storey pavilion structures on Fitzmaurice Street also interpret the strong roofscape of the justice precinct. The design strategy for the Courthouse delivers substantial improvements to the administration of justice in regional NSW.
