A four storey brick building, the Cooperage was built for the construction and maintenance of barrels for the CSR distilling industry in Pyrmont. The adaptive reuse of the building for commercial uses required careful integration of new services and new construction for the accommodation of strata office suites. New internal tenancy walls and a core containing lifts, toilets and fire stairs have been carefully inserted while retaining the overall building fabric. The internal and external fabric has been repaired and where required, new elements have been inserted in a manner that ensures the original fabric is understood. Artefacts from the cooperage, including the hoist, have been retained for interpretation of the original building uses.
