Comprising of 60 apartments with a mix of 14 x 1 bed, 37 x 2 bed and 9 x 3 bed units, the 5-6 storey building has a variety of single and double storey apartments. A long, thin site with long street frontages, aligning to Saunders Street, Quarry Masters Drive and the historic railway cutting, resulted in a building designed as three separate buildings above a common 2- level basement carpark. A through-site pedestrian link crosses over the light rail, providing pedestrian and cycle links to Harris Street and the CBD.

The building facade is strongly articulated and demonstrates variety and individuality in apartment types through colour, materials and detailing, positively responding to the finer grain of small lots typical of the earlier residential buildings in Pyrmont. The design successfully breaks away from the ‘large block – one entrance’ building type, providing smaller buildings with their own character, fewer apartments and, hence, smaller communities.

This project was the winner of the Design Competition for City West Development Corporation 1998, and was subsequently selected for inclusion in the NSW Government’s first review of the Quality Design Program in the Urban Design Advisory Service publication, ‘Improving Flat Design – a progress report’ 2004.
