- Multiple Residential
Prince Henry, Little Bay
This project involved the conservation and adaptive re-use of the former Matron Dickson Nurses Home, listed on the State Heritage Register as being of High heritage significance within the former Prince Henry Hospital site, to accommodate 42 quality contemporary apartments with associated facilities, including underground carparking situated under the internal courtyard. A key philosophical approach was to treat new built elements as insertions or as lightweight additions that touch the original fabric while preserving the buildings original form. Lightweight steel balconies and the insertion of French doors maximised the indoor/outdoor relationship of this unique coastal site. The building is complemented by a unique courtyard design that features a turf ‘wave’ design that creates a series of intimate seating areas for this key shared space.
