- Multiple Residential
Prince Henry, Little Bay
This refurbishment and adaptive re-use of a heritage listed 1930s brick medical research building at the former Prince Henry Hospital at Little Bay into 13 premium apartments has followed best practice to deliver contemporary living spaces. A key driver for the project was the desire to retain and build upon the character of the existing building, providing a re-invigorated and sustainable complex that links the history of the site to its future uses. The durable and robust construction, north-facing aspect and high ceilings provided an opportunity to create handsome and spacious apartments opening onto sunny courtyards and balconies. New elements are identifiable with contrasting and contemporary materials and forms, which respect the existing strong form, scale, proportions and horizontal emphasis of the existing rectilinear building. This allows the heritage value of the existing building and its setting to be legible with the layers of the new.
