This mixed-use development provides much-needed housing density to Bondi and Sydney’s growing urban fabric within a compact footprint which interacts with a lively retail and hospitality hub, pocket park and low-density housing stock.
The curved building form and materiality of blonde, face brick, concrete and timber reference the neighbouring bark of the mature melaleuca street trees as well as the site’s beachside setting and inter-war apartment buildings. The façade is punctured with north-facing balconies overlooking the park, and softened via vertical gardens, roof garden and landscaped central light void. A stepped rear façade and garden setback respects the low scale of houses behind, providing them with access to sunlight and borrowed landscape. The apartments’ open-plan living areas are oriented to the treetops to maximize natural light and the sense of space.
