Harbour House

Location:
Gadigal Country / Sydney

The villa's design is a sculptural response to its surroundings, with extended horizontal roof planes mirroring the rocky terraces of the harbour foreshore. The tree-like stone columns support the roof forms, enhancing the sense of robust shelter in the landscape. The material palette, inspired by the natural tones of the cliffs, includes stone, copper, and timber to reflect permanency and natural aging.  The linear arrangement creates two critical external spaces: a private arrival forecourt and cascading terraces leading to the foreshore.  The building is set into the site on a dark granite base to minimize visual impacts and provide uninterrupted views of the harbour. The landscape design, using native planting, further connects the villa to its context of site and foreshore.
