This project, to repurpose the former Queensland Government Savings Bank as a 220 room hotel, occupies a central location within the Brisbane’s central business district. With vistas over Queen’s Park in the foreground and the Brisbane river beyond, the site offered unique redevelopment possibilities as a unique hotel for Toga Group’s premium brand, Adina.
A key feature of the project includes an additional 5 levels creating a distinct, non-competitive juxtaposition between new and old forms. A contemporary interpretation of the original façade composition provides a common link between the two volumes.
The former double height banking chamber provides for a grand hotel lobby and a 160-person restaurant, while a gymnasium and open-air pool in the former light well completes the facilities at entry level. The mezzanine, a later addition to the banking chamber, overlooks the lobby and restaurant spaces and houses conference rooms.
